    Synchros wear out causing crunching of gears Reverse idlers suffer damage normally caused by agressive driving - Selecting reverse while traveling forwards can result in missing teeth or chipped teeth - F series gearboxes ( Vauxhalls ) can suffer on change down if selecting 1st or 2nd From 4th or 3rd at High speeds can literally strip the teeth clean off Diff housings are usually quite sturdy - Diff failure can cause immense damage to the gearbox case - Frequent diff failures common on VW Golf's and Ford mondeo's The later can be down to a 10 MM bolt on the selector shaft falling out and making its way down the gearbox and getting caught between the crown wheel and case. Selector Forks are normally made of Brass , they do wear and suffer with metal fatigue and can snap if forced into gear
